Iran urges world to hold US, Israel accountable for crimes

TEHRAN, Mar. 19 (MNA) – Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has called on the international community to act responsibly, and hold the US and Israel accountable for their crimes committed against the country.

Speaking in a telephone conversation with his Japanese counterpart Motegi Toshimitsu late on Wednesday, Iran’s top diplomat urged the international community to act responsibly, condemn the brazen violation of the UN Charter by aggressors, and hold the US and Israel accountable for their crimes.

During the meeting, the two top diplomats discussed the latest regional developments amid the unprovoked military aggression by the United States and the Israeli regime against Iran.

Araghchi emphasized that Iran is determined to defend itself resolutely against aggression.
He said that Iran’s counterattacks on the bases and facilities of aggressors in the region, which have been used as the origin of strikes on Iran, comply with the Islamic Republic’s legitimate right to self-defense, stressing that such measures should by no means be considered as attack on the countries of the region.

Araghchi added that the current situation in the Strait of Hormuz is a result of the war imposed by the United States and the Zionist regime on the region, emphasizing, “Not only the United States must be held accountable for this imposed war and the war crimes committed, but also for the economic consequences arising from the insecurity in the Persian Gulf region.”

Denouncing the US’ sinister plans to entangle other countries in the war under the pretext of helping reopen the Strait of Hormuz, Araghchi warned that any participation in the US-Israeli aggression will amount to complicity in aggression and heinous crimes.

Japanese Foreign Minister Toshimitsu, for his part, outlined Japan’s views about the consequences of the US and Israeli attacks on the region, stressing the need for diplomatic de-escalation of tensions.
